a new car seat cover

feeling a little under the weather, so will let pictures do the talking.

repurpose car seat

a long overdue project, i finally put some sunshine-y colour to this car seat. it looks so fun and inviting now, perfect for this winter weather. the lining, although invisible, has lovely printed bible verses on joy, love and faith. and as usual, my lil j never fail to offer himself to “model” for my photographs. how could i say no to him?

hopefully, this nasty cold will go away soon.  there’s still plenty for me to sew!

In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Ephesians 6:16

k+j sibling’s matching jackets

i bought this piece of woolen fabric because i wanted to make lil j a jacket.  so i started to google and read all about making a suit/jacket.  then the reading get too tough (there were all sort of jargons and i was too impatient really)… and i decided to purchase a pattern from here.

unfortunately, the pattern was not up to my expectation 😦  i wanted to make a professional looking proper suit but this pattern  doesn’t come with a front facing and back neck facing, just front and back lining.  also, i wanted to bag the jacket lining and eliminate hand sewing but this was not the case with the pattern.  by then, i was slightly distraught but still adamant about wanting things my way!  so i diverted a little (to allow for ahem! more research time) and made a trench coat for lil k instead, with the same fabric of course.

i drafted the pattern from scratch, drawing inspirations from various kids clothing designs but keeping it simple so as not to make too much mistake, and enjoyed my first attempt on woolen fabric.  even added some handmade piping and little pleats for details.

naturally, i made the jacket bigger, hopefully lil k can wear it longer. so i added a martingale so it won't look too baggy.

i did not line this jacket, so i hand sewn the hem and decided that the jacket for lil j HAS TO BE LINED.

and then i started working on lil j’s jacket.  with extensive “research” plus staring countless times at hubz’s suits, I finally put the scissors to the fabric.  along the way, those jargons and online tutorials eventually made sense 😉

lil j's jacket finally completed

yay! lil j’s jacket finally completed

i must say the instructions for the welt pocket from the original pattern i purchased was very clear.  i’ve attempted the welt pocket before but wasn’t very successful so this was a major improvement. the tedious part was cutting the fabric to ensure the pocket pieces pattern matched the jacket shelf.

except for the opening to turn the jacket inside out, the whole lining was completely bagged and machine sewn. i was rather happy with the outcome!

so now, my lil j and lil k have a matching, sibling jackets.  even the buttons are matched!

[KCWC] First Project: Receiving Blanket and Matching Jacket

so i started with first gear, and sewn something relatively easy.  a PINK coloured receiving blanket 🙂  (yes, it is going to be a girl!)  really, not much sewing skills needed – straight line, 4 mitre corners and voila!

my oh-so-soft and oh-so-pink receiving blanket 🙂

and then i decided to make a matching little jacket with the leftover fabric.  after all, i need to start this project with a bang, no? hehe..

a very simple, almost patternless tiny little jacket. finished off with some bias binding, and added some tiny lace as well. now isn't this sweet?

i used the bias tape as the ribbon tie as well. and decided to hand stitch (<3 with lots of and lots of love ❤ )to finish off the bias binding. can you see the little lace along the bias binding? the jacket is so tiny and ultra soft. lil j saw it and said "is that for my sister?" then he added, "it feels so cosy" as he touched it... i just love that boy!

not bad to start off this “challenge” eh?  today, i am thinking of making a jammies for lil j… stay tuned!

But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.  Luke 15:32

sometimes… i kind of forgotten that i have a blog ;)

good enough an excuse for not updating?

well, i haven’t really been sewing much, too, honestly.  too much distractions, too little time to take out the machine, the ironing board, etc to get sewing started.

BUT, i will definitely be sewing this week!  everyday of the week!  because i have signed up to sew along elsie marley’s KCWC!  woot! woot!

meanwhile, these are some things that i have sewn lately.

"inspired" by my lil j's house building with blocks and lego, i made this door stopper one morning. he said, mama, can you make another one but make it into a pillow? hmm... i haven't got around to do that for him yet... soon, soon...

i love this fabric, so i made it into a fold-able shopping bag.

as usual, my lil j wanted to be my model. he is such a charmer, every time i made some thing, he volunteers to be my model and willingly poses for the camera. oh, of course, i cut his hair too 😉

i made this nursing cover with a hooter hider for myself! since we will be travelling a bit when the new baby arrived, this will come in handy.

up close of the nursing cover. i especially love the little detail on the strap 🙂

ok.. now off to some serious sewing for my first project for KCWC.  that is, after i dust off the machine…

being formal…

after one whole week of labour, i finally manage to finish lil j’s trousers.  actually, i spent most of the time de-constructing this…

this was a pair of my pants which i haven't worn for a while, ermm.. since i quit my job some years ago actually...

and then i drafted the pattern from this

traced the patterns from an existing pair of shorts that best fit

by the end of the week…

all done... that is after some hours of cutting, sewing, pressing etc...

upon washing and ironing...

and then there was a wedding to go to…

the little boy all dressed up. i made the pants a little too roomy for his liking, and unfortunately i did not get a chance to let him try before hand, so there was no time to work on it further. the shirt was hand-me-down from a friend whose boy's have outgrown it.. which was perfect for lil j.

it was a lovely wedding indeed.  lil j kissed the beautiful bride a couple of times too 🙂

if only we remembered and managed to take at least one family picture yesterday… oh well, there is always next time 😉

my best friend…

this week, i have had the chance to spend some quality time with my best friend 🙂

my faithful seam ripper 🙂

yup, my faithful friend who is helping me a great deal to get something nice done for my lil j.  i just need to put the finishing touch to it right after he wakes up from his rather long-ish nap…

thank you, my friend 🙂

activity book

i finished making this book for Aidan last year.  honestly, i was not totally satisfied with the outcome.  a lot of the pages were done while i was nursing my morning sickness, hence they were not quite up to my expectation 😦

the fabric was sewn onto the felt for the cover page.

the first page was similar to the one i made for lil j earlier. on the second page, the crab's claw were actually pegs.

buckles for the puppy's collar, and numbers on the other page using buttons

a little puzzle with shapes. the back of the train featured a pocket carrying the various shapes that can be assembled into the train.

a little tent with zipper, with 2 bears inside, and a simple page on ABC

color pencils holder and a bit of a cheat page - i bought an activity pad to be inserted into the last page 😛

nevertheless, this was one project which took me much longer than usual to accomplish.  i hope Aidan likes it though 🙂
