a new car seat cover

feeling a little under the weather, so will let pictures do the talking.

repurpose car seat

a long overdue project, i finally put some sunshine-y colour to this car seat. it looks so fun and inviting now, perfect for this winter weather. the lining, although invisible, has lovely printed bible verses on joy, love and faith. and as usual, my lil j never fail to offer himself to “model” for my photographs. how could i say no to him?

hopefully, this nasty cold will go away soon.  there’s still plenty for me to sew!

In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Ephesians 6:16

being formal…

after one whole week of labour, i finally manage to finish lil j’s trousers.  actually, i spent most of the time de-constructing this…

this was a pair of my pants which i haven't worn for a while, ermm.. since i quit my job some years ago actually...

and then i drafted the pattern from this

traced the patterns from an existing pair of shorts that best fit

by the end of the week…

all done... that is after some hours of cutting, sewing, pressing etc...

upon washing and ironing...

and then there was a wedding to go to…

the little boy all dressed up. i made the pants a little too roomy for his liking, and unfortunately i did not get a chance to let him try before hand, so there was no time to work on it further. the shirt was hand-me-down from a friend whose boy's have outgrown it.. which was perfect for lil j.

it was a lovely wedding indeed.  lil j kissed the beautiful bride a couple of times too 🙂

if only we remembered and managed to take at least one family picture yesterday… oh well, there is always next time 😉

my best friend…

this week, i have had the chance to spend some quality time with my best friend 🙂

my faithful seam ripper 🙂

yup, my faithful friend who is helping me a great deal to get something nice done for my lil j.  i just need to put the finishing touch to it right after he wakes up from his rather long-ish nap…

thank you, my friend 🙂

fun with batiks

my sister got some batiks from Bali from her recent holiday trip there.  she sent them to me and i was tasked to turned them into something wearable. these are the results.

this piece of lovely blue with big pink flower motif was used to make a sleeveless dress/night gown for our niece. i did not use any pattern, just cut the piece as would a peasant dress style.

this one can either be a nightie or a summer beach wear i guess. again, no pattern, just a little of random cutting and turning it into a simple piece of clothing. i used bias tape to finish the bodice and double up as the shoulder strap, which is adjustable. this dress is made for my sister of course.

each dress takes less than one-lil-j-nap hour (read: no more than 2 hours)

and i still have two more pieces of batik to go.. i haven’t quite decided what to do with them for now… maybe a dress for myself.. hmm… we’ll see

What then shall we say?  Is God unjust?  Not at all!  For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”  It does not, therefore, depend on man’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.  Romans 9:14-16

another wardrobe refashion attempt

i found this maternity dress which i’ve never worn before just the other day.

believe me, i heard this fabric calling out to me when i was spring-cleaning the storage...

i knew just what i had to do…

i turned the dress into a slim-fit, non elasticised, slightly-pleated-front pair of shorts for my lil j! and not wanting to "waste" the fabric, i made the pockets extra long and big.

alright, it did not turn out right on the first attempt.  i totally forgot that by wanting it flat waisted, it means i need some opening of sort otherwise, how could you possibly wear it?  so i had to cut the front and insert a fly zipper.  it certainly did not end up too shabby.. i guess…

and then i had more of the fabric left.  i decided to make lil j a matching cap..

lil j's new cap, fully lined.

here’s one of my favorite pictures of him “parading” this outfit in Eumundi Market when we were holidaying a couple of weeks ago…

he was all smile when invited to sit and take a photo with these mates.. in fact, he was watching them strumming away happily, and even put some money after that. lil j is a big fan of street musicians indeed.

oh, did i mention i made both the shorts and cap just the night before we went for our holiday?  i simply had to! 🙂

refashioned: linen pants/trousers

spring cleaning.

and i found a pair of my favourite pants which unfortunately, have shrunk in size.. (ermm.. or was it me who has put on those extra pounds??)

one of my favourite linen pants

and made it into this:

i used the original pockets as i want to have big pockets for lil j. instead of making a cuffed hem with the strap, i sew the strap vertically (for no apparent reason).

using the original buttons, i made two loops on the top back of the pants. the strap at the hem can either be buttoned from the front or back

i am glad that the pants fit perfectly now 😀

visor beanies

some time ago, dear hubz got some free beanies from the magazines he bought.  he wasn’t going to wear them, and they were too big for me.  so i just put one on lil j’s teddy, and the other one into lil j’s toy box.  and then the other day, i saw the columbia’s visor beanie.  that’s when i thought i could ‘fix’ those beanies to fit.

i tried on the first one, inserting a piece of transparency film, and liked it.  even cut out some felt and made a little flower to decorate it.  and then tried on the other one, but totally made a disaster out of it 😛  then i found my old beanie but somehow it seemed way too snug (has my brain been growing eh?)  and i decided to make a bigger visor, and tighten it to fit lil j.  this time i cut out the visor from a sour cream packaging 😛

so now, both lil j and me have our own visor beanie.  yippie!

it really is difficult trying to take my own picture here with my new beanie 😛

with a big visor in order to make it fit the little one better. he was too busy picking up his star fruit with the fork to be bothered with posing for me.
