introducing… lil hedgehog

10 months later, that’s it.  wow!  is she already 10 months old?  where did all the time go?

anyway, for the first time.. making her debut in this blog.  lil hedgehog (a very lovely nickname given by lil j)

lil hedgehog aka lil k at one month old.

lil hedgehog aka lil k at one month old.

and she just keep growing.

My name is cutie - a gift from Oma.

and before i get enough of holding the tiny little her, she was all ready to “get up and go”

i was quite sure she was trying to make the pouty lips look. she was cat-walking on the couch. one of the outfit i sewn for her, which lil j thought it was a fairy dress - he said the tie at the back is the fairy wings. my lil j is such a sweet boy :)

and now at 10 month old – with 4 teeth, loves music, special liking for “twinkle twinkle little star”, very much into Thomas the Tank Engine (thanks to lil j), extremely sociable and happy, tremendously loud (especially when crying – and it can go on for a long time), lover of food – especially gourmet meals, cruising around fast and almost ready to walk, and very tough with quite stubborn character emerging…

a very playful and cheeky girl. but don't mess with her. lil j will tell you she is not easy!

and i have indeed been sewing up a storm for this lil monster!  just don’t grow up so fast please lil k, ok?

and a year later

i went missing second day into the KCWC challenge last year.  succumbed to my PGP, so I slowed down.. and was not quite in the mood to blog.

then i just rested, and enjoyed the company of my parents.  and their cooking.  and my growing belly, and all those in between.

then lil hedgehog made her debut.  easy and fast, but extremely loud.  she is getting louder by the day now.

and we went away, all of us, for a good two months.  for a break, for a holiday.  or maybe not quite.  but we were away.

then we came back, and before we could resume normalcy with a new member in tow, we found our dream home.  so we packed, and packed, and packed, and then we moved.  and then we unpacked, and unpacked some more… you get the drift.

and after a year and a bit later… i am back.

yes, the sewing machine is not in storage anymore, and it has been used a fair bit.

and i will (fingers crossed) be updating on new things sewn… soon.  as soon as i find the strength to upload the photos 😉

and i had to share this which basically describe most of my days now.  (someone emailed to me, sorry i can’t credit the orginal source)

Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 2 Peter 1:4

i have abandoned my blog.. NOT!

ok, so i missed Christmas, and the New Year.  i am a terrible blogger!  in my mind though, i updated so frequently.  it just didn’t show up here 😛

i have been rather ill since early November.  a bout of flu and cough, followed by another.  lost my voice shortly before Christmas and then the coughing and a nasty cold caught up again!  New Year came and voila!  it is already half month into January!

BUT perhaps, the best Christmas/New Year gift of all time from God!

yes, this little peanut (13 weeks now), nicked “the hedgehog” by lil j was one of the reasons for my tardiness in updating.  the morning sickness, aka day-and-night-sickness was taking toll on me.  drinking water made me ill (and still does now), every smell that has never bothered me before became so unbearable, i lost count of my vomiting bout.  all these were so different from when I was pregnant with lil j.  in fact, I had almost none of these the first time round!  having said that, our family is thrilled!  lil j loves putting his head on my tum and keep telling me his “hedgehog” said hi to him, and is swimming inside my tummy.

so yeah, we are extremely thankful for God’s blessing.

on my sewing front, which what this blog should be about… i have not been very productive as i would have like to.  i was almost always tired, and therefore when lil j naps, i took the opportunity to have naps myself.  in the midst though, i did made him a pair of shorts from his daddy’s old shirt, experimented with another one of his daddy’s shirt to make it into a mini version for lil j, completed the activity book for a little boy (just in time for Christmas), and mended a few clothes here and there.

so there… an update finally… i have not abandoned my blog surely.  and i will be updating again soon.. sneak peek of what’s coming up next…

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship.  Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.  Romans 12: 1-2

it has been raining all week… oh, rain, please come again another day

the weather is all gloomy… the whole week!  it’s so wet, we could hardly do anything outside… and lil j is already feeling all cooped up, having only been out twice this week!  you know the little ones, they are so full of energies, and to have them confined to the house, even with indoor activities, aren’t just the same as being out there.. exploring, running, etc etc… sigh

on the bright side… we took advantage of the situation to do a “big” project for him… potty training!  yay!  well, we actually started two weeks ago.  we decided it was about time – he was showing all the signs and more.. coupled with the fact that i’ve always believed in EC and practised (rather successfully) from when lil j was about 3 month old (although, he was adamant that he wanted to use only the diaper shortly after he was 1, and thereafter, for one whole year, there was no potty/toilet involved!  that boy!) .  we were actually running out of diaper one day, and can you believe it, they ran out of the size and brand that we usually bought.  so i told hubz, oh well, it’s fine, it’s about time he gets back on the potty anyway.

and so it was.  i decided to use cloth diaper rather than underpants right away because i figured the cloth diaper will be more absorbent anyway, and i could not afford him having accidents around the house when it’s carpeted.  the first day was a total disaster – 100% of the time, he pee-d and poo-ed in the diaper.  and it was funny watching him walked like a duck to me each time it happened… mama, please help him change (he refers to himself as “he” as in a third party perspective).  i just reminded him that he has to use the potty/toilet so that he wouldn’t get all sticky and stinky.  and i thought to myself, this is going to be a long journey!

on the second day, there was quite a big improvement – at least 50% of the time he remembered to use the potty (i decided to put a sticker of Thomas the train on it as this was one of the characters he liked), but mostly after he wet himself slightly… still it was a major improvement…

and then, suddenly by the fourth day, it was 100% potty!  yay!  (ok, still not counting the night/nap time for now)

staying home mostly, and having a routine during this time actually helped a lot.  i brought lil j out few times on the second/third day of his training, and he seemed to “forgot” about the potty after he got home.. for a while at least.  i doubt rewards and chart were helpful for him, he wasn’t at all interested when i said he could have this or that after he has gone to the toilet… so i dropped it after a few attempts.)

over the course of the next week, we just moved on to the toilet.  and moved out of the cloth diaper to underpants.  he is feeling so proud of himself now.  he’d uttered, good job, well done!  after having gone to the toilet… (i must admit, i feel proud of him too… then again, i am his mama right? – everything about him ought to make me proud)

it does feel somewhat strange washing and hanging out little underpants now… and it is also somewhat strange to be talking about potty training in my sewing blog 😛  but well… let’s just say it’s another wonderful project i’ve been working on afterall… and yes, please oh, rain, can you come back some other time… because the little boy in the underpants wants to go out and play… and so does his mama…

he was really excited about wearing underpants, just like a big boy... he started to dance with the bunny and ice bear when i asked him to take a picture 🙂

lil j

the reason i am a SAHM.  the joy of our life.  the inspiration for my sewing and crafting.

she makes linen garments and sells them and supplies the merchants with sashes…

so i have decided to start a blog.

to rant a little about my infinitesimal sewing and crafting projects.  mostly carried out when lil j is napping.  and mostly ends up for him anyway.

but i do hope i’d be whipping up some stuff for sale soon.  uh, you know, to raise the diaper fund and such…

and most likely  a lot of some mentions of lil j.   uh, and of course, my dear hubz.

ya, so i have decided to start blogging.
